New Aerospace Approvals for Micom Laboratories

At Micom Laboratories, we are committed to providing first-class materials testing services that meet our customers’ growing needs as well as international standards. Quality and compliance are very important to us, which is why we hold several important approvals, including the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for a mechanical testing laboratory. As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our services, we are proud to announce the recent addition of two important new approvals in the aerospace sector.

Our New Approvals: Our Commitment to Reliability

As an experienced materials testing laboratory, Micom has been approved as a subcontractor/laboratory to perform various tests for a major Canadian aircraft manufacturer and its subsidiary. Here’s an overview of these new approvals:

Approval from De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, the world’s leading manufacturer of turboprop aircraft, recognizes the reliability of Micom Laboratories’ testing by approving it as a subcontractor meeting strict performance and material safety standards.

The tests for which we have been approved include:

  • DAGER 006 2A – Mechanical testing (metals, composites, adhesives, resins, sealants, plastics, rubbers, etc.)
  • DAGER 006 4A – Physical properties testing (specific density, weight, moisture content, TGA, etc.)
  • DAGER 006 5A – Corrosion testing
  • DAGER 006 5E – Evaluation of paints
  • DAGER 006 6 – Coupon preparation

Approval from Viking Air

Micom has also received approval from Viking Air, a division of De Havilland that manufactures specialized aircraft. This approval enables us to carry out corrosion and durability tests. The approved tests are :

  • VAERD GEN-018 – Technical requirements for laboratories
  • VAERD GEN-0182A – Static testing and testing of adhesives, resins, and sealants
  • VAERD GEN-0184A – Physical property tests (specific gravity, weight, water content, TGA, etc.)
  • VAERD GEN-0184B
  • VAERD GEN-0185E – Evaluation of paints

The addition of these recognitions from leading aircraft manufacturers testifies to our commitment to providing top-quality services in compliance with the most stringent industry standards.

Specialized Testing for the Aerospace Industry

New approvals from de Havilland Canada and Viking strengthen Micom Laboratories’ materials testing offering for the aerospace industry. We are very well positioned to meet the specific materials testing needs of this industry in Canada, the USA, and anywhere in the world. Our services include:

  • Physical and mechanical testing: We evaluate materials to ensure their reliability and robustness, which are essential requirements in the aerospace industry.
  • Corrosion testing: We carry out corrosion tests to measure the resistance of materials in corrosive environments, which is important in guaranteeing the safety and longevity of aircraft.
  • Paint testing: We validate protective coatings to ensure optimum material performance under extreme conditions.

Other important aerospace certifications and approvals held by Micom

In addition to our new approvals, we already hold several recognized certifications in the aerospace industry:

  • ISO/IEC 17025 by A2LA: Our laboratory is accredited by A2LA, attesting to our compliance with the most stringent international standards for test accuracy and reliability.
  • Airbus Canada Gen-O18 Approval: We are approved to carry out material (physical and mechanical), paint, and corrosion tests for this manufacturer. This testifies to our competence in carrying out tests crucial to aeronautical safety.
  • Bombardier Aerospace Approval: We are approved as a laboratory to carry out tests to ensure that products comply with requirements in terms of resistance to various chemical and mechanical stresses representative of the context and environment to which they will be subjected.

Why are Approvals Important in the Aerospace Industry?

  1. Increased trust: Approvals from various aircraft manufacturers validate our expertise and assure our customers that our test methods meet the highest industry standards.
  2. Risk mitigation: Accredited by industry leaders such as Airbus, Bombardier Aerospace, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, and Viking Air, we minimize risk for our customers by ensuring that their materials are tested under rigorous conditions and validated for use in real-world environments.
  3. International recognition: These approvals testify to our ability to meet the global needs of aircraft manufacturers, reinforcing our position as the reference laboratory for corrosion and durability testing worldwide.
  4. Easier access to markets: For our customers, complying with the aerospace industry’s stringent standards means faster and easier access to global markets, where material safety and reliability are paramount.
