Manoj Laboratory Technician at Micom Laboratories

Manoj’s Journey: A Valuable Asset at Micom

Originally from Sri Lanka, Manoj has always been passionate about science. After growing up in his home country, he pursued his studies in the United Kingdom, earning a degree in Biomedical Science with a specialization in advanced analytical techniques and postgraduate studies in laboratory quality management. He then furthered his education in Chemistry in Ontario, Canada, specializing in polymer and materials analysis as well as chemical degradation assessment. This international journey allowed him to develop a global perspective, which he now applies at Micom Laboratories.

A Day at Micom with Manoj

As a laboratory technician at Micom Laboratories, Manoj plays a central role in conducting specialized tests, particularly those related to surface finishes, UV exposure, and corrosive environments. Among his main responsibilities, he receives, identifies, and prepares samples for testing. He performs color measurements and calibrates the colorimeter in accordance with ASTM D2244 standards. Additionally, he handles gloss measurements and calibrates the gloss meter (ASTM D523), as well as performs hardness, weight, dimension, and adhesion measurements on materials.

Manoj is also responsible for mechanical and physical testing using an Instron machine. He regularly conducts tensile, bending, shear, compression, and other tests on various materials, including one- and two-part sealants. His role involves preparing samples in accordance with current testing protocols to ensure accurate and reproducible results.

A Collaborative Work Environment

What Manoj particularly appreciates is the transparency that prevails at Micom. The company values its employees’ opinions and actively encourages new ideas. For him, this openness is a fundamental aspect that makes the work environment motivating and stimulating.

A Passion for Science and Hobbies

Passionate about his work, Manoj enjoys spending time in the lab, which he sees as much more than just a job. Outside of his professional activities, he relaxes by playing video games, a hobby that helps him develop strategic thinking and problem-solving skills—skills that also come in handy in his role at Micom Labs.
